HP Officejet 5255 Paper Jam

In the HP Officejet 5255 printer, when a paper jam happens, the printer usually throws a Paper Jam error on its control panel display. Also, there is a possibility for the HP OfficeJet 5255 printer to display Paper Jam error when there is actually no paper jammed inside.

The paper jam in an HP OfficeJet 5255 printer can occur in various locations in the printer.When the control panel of the HP OfficeJet 5255 printer displays a Paper Jam error, tap OK on the control panel to clear the paper jam automatically.Still, if the Paper Jam error is displayed on the control panel, then try to check and clear the paper jam manually.Before proceeding further, turn off your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer in order to avoid any damage to the printer.

Step 1: Check the paper jam in the input tray area.

To check and clear any paper jam in the input tray area, follow the steps below.

  • Open the input tray door on your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer.
  • Gently pull out the input tray.
  • Now, with the help of a flashlight, make a clear check if there is any paper jammed inside the input tray area of your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer.
  • If you find any paper stuck inside the input tray, hold the paper with both your hands and pull it out gently.
  • Make sure to pull the paper out without any residue left inside.
  • Now, hold the scanner lid and turn the printer on its side to access its base.
  • Open the input tray door and pull the input tray towards you.
  • When you pull out the input tray, you will see the bottom of the printer. If there is any paper inside, pull it outside without tearing.
  • After you pull out the paper, check the paper pick rollers as well, and remove the papers on it if you find any.
  • Close the input tray.
  • Now, open the ink cartridge access door gently and check if there are any loose objects since you have turned over the printer to clear the paper jam at the bottom.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door.
  • Connect the power cord into the printer. Turn on your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer.
  • Now, try to print and see if the Paper Jam error occurs.

Step 2: Check the paper jam in the ink cartridge access area

Follow the below steps to check and clear the paper jam in the ink cartridge access area of your HP Office Jet 5255 printer.

  • Check whether the HP OfficeJet 5255 printer is turned off. If it is not turned off, then turn off the printer and remove the power cord from the printer.
  • Hold on both sides and lift the ink cartridge access door till it locks into its position.
  • Grasp the tabs together on the paper path cover and remove the paper path cover from the ink cartridge access area.
  • If you find any jammed paper inside, then remove the paper with both hands gently without tearing the paper.
  • Now, check for the jammed paper on the duplex rollers of your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer. For this, lift the flip gate on the duplex rollers and remove any jammed paper on the duplex rollers.
  • Close the flip gate.
  • Insert the paper path cover back into its position. Close the ink cartridge access door. 
  • Plug the power cord into your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer and turn on the power supply to the printer.
  • Try to print and check if the Paper Jam error is cleared or not.

Step 3: Check the paper jam in the print carriage area

To check and clear the paper jam in the print carriage area of your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer, carry out the steps below.

  • Turn off the power supply to your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer.
  • Hold both the ends of the ink cartridge access door and lift it until it locks into its place.
  • Move the print carriage to the extreme right and gently pull out the paper without tearing it.
  • Similarly, move the print carriage to the extreme left and remove the torn pieces of paper, if any.
  • Once done, close the ink cartridge access door.
  • Plug the power cord into the printer and turn on the power supply to the printer.
  • Check if the Paper Jam error is still displayed when you try to print.

Step 4: Check the paper jam in the document feeder

  • Lift the document feeder cover at the top of the HP OfficeJet 5255 printer.
  • Pull out the jammed paper with both hands without tearing.
  • If the paper is torn, then remove all the pieces of paper completely.
  • Close the document feeder cover back into its place.
  • Provide power supply to the printer and try printing.
